Welcome to New Wave.
I also love the music, but that’s another conversation for another day. This newsletter is dedicated to the new waves of young feminists, Gen Z and millennials, creating waves of change in their contexts and transnationally in today’s digital age.
I’m Ani Hao, a still-young feminist, a freelance editor, journalist, and DJ. I’ve worked in strategic communications for feminist organizations and funds, and have been doing newsletters for institutions for the past two years - so I decided that I should do my own.
Here, you’ll find interviews that I do with young feminist artists, activists, and advocates based in former colonies and current colonies, working in hyperlocal contexts and also transnationally on the internet, and learn about the experiences that shaped their sense of self and purpose, their creative processes, how they engage with different communities, and how they practice pleasure activism. We won’t shy away from frank and honest conversations about harm, toxicity, power, and money. Most importantly, we’ll try to amplify what gives them energy, life, and resources.
I’ll also write biweekly essays on different topics, most likely whatever comes to my mind that particular week, and especially if it’s commentary inspired by current news (I’m a junkie). I’ll share links to what I’m reading and writing.

In the meantime, tell your friends!
